A Guide to the Art in the Stockholm Metro

MARIE ANDERSSON
The Stockholm Metro is often referred to as the world’s longest art exhibition, and with roughly 90 stations featuring art, it certainly lives up to the description. Hence a Metro journey is a voyage into the world of art. Many of the stations were holistically designed from the start, some have been embellished with artworks, for example sculptures and mosaics, at a later stage, and in a few others the artworks are replaced every year. But art can also be seen in other parts of the public transport system, at commuter rail stations, a few bus terminals and at a number of light rail stations.
